Our story

Mikra

Mikra brings together the strengths of Micro and Klaki to offer a more complete partner for modern automation and processing solutions. With a team of more than 50 people, Mikra combines deep experience in processing equipment, mechanical solutions, software, robotics, machine vision, and integrated systems. The result is one stronger company, able to support customers from concept and engineering to automation, installation, and long-term service — delivering the whole package from start to finish.

The Micro story

Micro was founded in 1996 by Sveinn Sigurðsson and Steinn Árni Ásgeirsson. In its early years, the company mainly serviced Icelandic fishing vessels, but over time it grew into an established high-tech solution company designing and producing food processing equipment for a range of industries, mainly the fish industry. Today, the public company profile highlights more than 40 employees, over 100 customers, and more than 25 years of experience.

The Klaki story

Klaki’s roots go back to 1972, when Benedikt Sigurdsson founded the company after seeing a clear need for better conveying solutions in seafood processing. The company began with gravity rollers for boxes and trays, and over the following decades built a strong reputation for robust, practical and hygienic equipment. Klaki later introduced telescopic conveyors, fish lifts, fish pumps, and block ejectors, before moving further into automation, vessel processing systems, robotics, and machine vision. Klaki’s later public material and award nomination also describe a small but highly capable team spanning mechanical construction, design, service, electrical work, and software.

Why Choose Mikra

Choosing Mikra means working with one partner that brings together a wider range of experience, capability, and practical know-how. By combining Micro’s strength in processing systems, hardware, software, and integrated delivery with Klaki’s deep expertise in automation, robotics, machine vision, and industrial problem-solving, Mikra is able to offer a more complete solution from start to finish. For customers, that means less fragmentation, better integration, and one company capable of supporting the full journey — from concept and mechanical solutions to automation, software, vision, and long-term service. This also fits the direction behind the Mikra brand and website work: to define clearly who Mikra is today and build on that as a stronger company going forward.
